Waterboy |
Every boy remembers the first movie that makes him cry. I was no different, except my tear-jerker was Waterboy, an indie comedy from 1998 starring Adam Sandler as Bobby Boucher, the waterboy of the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs football team, and one of my favorite movies of all time. So when I heard that Netflix would be streaming it in honor of its 20th anniversary this year, I decided to rewatch it and see how it stood up to my memories - and boy did it live up to them!

Some have even said it's one of the best films on the streaming service. If you're looking for a film that will make you think, Waterboy is definitely worth watching.
It tells an important and relatable story about gender inequality that we all need to hear. And as always, if you're not happy with what you see, remember: don't blame me--I'm just writing this blog post! More seriously, there really is no reason why you shouldn't watch this movie.

Why You Should Watch
Waterboy is an emotionally powerful story of a young man who attempts to make his way in a world where women aren't allowed on the field. The film is visually stunning, and the acting is top-notch. The film will leave you thinking about the importance of family, friendship, and love. It's a must-watch for anyone looking for a feel-good movie that isn't too over the top.
I recommend this to those looking for a little lighthearted entertainment but also has some depth. I gave it four out of five stars on Netflix because it felt like it had something missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Regardless, it was still one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
What Others Are Saying
Waterboy has been praised by critics for its heart-wrenching story and powerful performances. The film has been called a must-watch and an important film for our times. Audiences have also praised the movie's realistic portrayal of the world without women, saying that it shows just how much work still needs to be done. This is what the world would look like if there were no women, one viewer wrote on Twitter. We should all watch this. Men need to understand the inequality we live with every day.
It's not enough to say you're against sexual assault or are supportive of equality - we need you to use your privilege in ways that make life better for everyone. Whether that means being more mindful about how you speak about gender, donating money to causes that empower women, or simply telling your friends when they cross a line, it's up to each of us.
Post-Watch Activity
After watching Waterboy, I was left feeling both inspired and heartbroken. The film follows the story of a young man who attempts to make his way in a world where women aren't allowed on the field. Despite the odds being against him, he persists and eventually finds success. While the film has a happy ending, it's clear that the journey was not easy. This story is a powerful reminder of the importance of fighting for what you believe in, even when the odds are against you.
It also sheds light on how different life can be without people who have been historically oppressed, such as women. It isn't often that we're given insight into the struggles of those whose voices don't get heard very often in our society. For this reason, I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a new perspective. Seeing how things might be if no women were allowed on the field will give you some food for thought and teach you more about oppression. Whether or not you agree with their viewpoints, you'll at least come away from the film with a better understanding of their side of things.
