The day before my test, my boyfriend and I went out to eat. We both ordered drinks with our meal but ended up eating most of the food instead. The following morning, we drove back to campus and met at the fountain in front of Schmitt Hall. My heart was racing from anticipation as he handed me an empty cup. He filled it halfway with water so that we could drink it on the way back. 

As I walked back to my dorm, the idea hit me: what if I don’t have enough? What if this is too much for me? But by now it was too late. When I got there, I drank everything in one go and then sat on the floor staring at nothing for about ten minutes. It felt like a dream world where nothing mattered anymore because without water nothing else seemed important either. After 10 minutes passed, reality started coming into focus again, as did my thirst-induced headache.

Tips To Increase Your Daily Water Intake

To increase your daily water intake, try drinking eight to ten glasses of water every day. If you don't like the taste of plain water, try adding fruit slices or cucumbers to your glass. Drinking tea and coffee is also an easy way to add more fluid to your diet. 

Other options include sipping on iced green teas and iced coffees, as well as sparkling water with lemon or lime juice in it. Lastly, make sure that you're getting enough H2O from food too!

How Does The Water Deprivation Test Work?

The water deprivation test is typically performed over four days. On the first day, participants are only allowed to consume two cups of water. On the second day, they can drink four cups of water and so on until they reach eight cups on the fourth day. Participants are also allowed to eat and drink other beverages during the experiment but should avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sodas as much as possible.

The goal of this experiment is to test the body's ability to function without water while limiting its intake of fluids.

How Long Does The Water Deprivation Test Last?

The water deprivation test usually lasts three days, but can be extended to five days. The goal is to keep the participant from drinking any fluids other than water. On the first day, you will drink four cups of water per hour for twelve hours. On the second day, you will drink two cups of water every two hours for twelve hours. On the third day, you will only drink one cup of water per hour for twelve hours.
